Chuma Nwokolo

Chuma Nwokolo is a Nigerian writer, lawyer, and publisher. He graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also served as writer-in-residence at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and chair of Leys Newspapers, Oxford, and has led creative writing seminars for Oxford Brookes University and Benue State University.

He is the publisher of the literary magazine African Writing, which he co-founded with Afam Akeh. His early novels, The Extortionist (1983) and Dangerous Inheritance (1988), were published by Macmillan in the Pacesetter series. He has two poetry collections, Memories of Stone (2006) and The Final Testament of a Minor God (2014). His other works include African Tales at Jailpoint (1999), Diaries of a Dead African (2003), One More Tale for the Road (2003), the short-story collection The Ghost of Sani Abacha (2012), and How to Spell Naija in 100 Short Stories (2013/2016). His novel The Extinction of Menai, centred on language and cultural extinction, was named one of Publishers Weekly's 25 best works of fiction in 2018. His short stories and poetry have appeared in the London Review of Books, AGNI, and the Massachusetts Review. His work has been translated into Italian, Slovene, Arabic, Yoruba, and Slovak.
